FAQs

Q: How does Tweeet work?

A: Tweeet plays pre-recorded calls of Swifts, Sand Martins, House Martins or Purple Martins (depending on the model) that are nesting. These birds tend to nest in colonies and so are attracted by the calls of other birds to a potential nesting site.

Q: What are the different power options?

A:  The battery version uses 4 x AA (supplied) batteries that will last typicallt 45 days.  The USB version has a 10m lead that plugs into a 5V USB charger (not supplied). You will have to route the cable from outside to inside. The Solar version is totally independent from any external power and includes internal rechargeable batteries.

Q: For the battery version, how long do the batteries last?

A: Usually around 45 days depending on temperature and volume setting.

Q: How loud is the  Tweeet?

A: Tweeet has a maximum sound output of around 98dB at 1M (for comparison, normal human conversation is around 60dB). There is a volume control.

Q: How often does Tweeet play its bird calls?

A: Tweeet plays bird calls for 2 hours after dawn

Q: Can I get Tweeet to play at other times?

A: Yes, the automatic switching on at dawn can be extended for continuous daylight operation. See manual for details.

Q: Is Tweeet waterproof?

A: Yes, you can leave Tweeet in the rain as it’s specified up to Nema 4/ IP65. We do recommend that the unit is removed once the nesting season is finished and stored indoors to maximise the unit’s life.

Q:  Will Tweeet upset my pets

A: No, unless you have a specifically nervous pet, Tweeet is playing natural bird sounds the pet should be familiar with.

Q:   In the battery version are the batteries easy to change?

A: Yes. Undo the 4 screws and replace with good quality 4 x AA/LR6 Alkaline batteries.

Q.  Which are better dawn or dusk calls for attracting scouts?

A. There is considerable research to show that dawn calls are better than dusk calls.

Q. Is Tweeet easy to fix to a wall?

A: Yes, all you need is a electric drill with a masonry bit. See the video.
